Lavender Recipes

Ok… as promised, here are 4 fabulous recipes that include lavender!

For Calm/Sleep (especially with kiddos)
4 drops Lavender
4 drops Chamomile (Roman or German)
Apply to a cotton ball and tuck under crib/bed sheet near your child’s head for a more restful night’s sleep.  Great for calming fussing or a fitful sleeper.  Fabulous tucked into a car seat for that long car ride!  Moms – you can apply this mixture in a dime’s worth of lotion to your chest for a good night’s sleep for you both!

For Edema – Water Retention/Bloating
Be particularly cautious with this potent recipe!  Its great for expecting moms who are retaining water or for that time of the month!
1 oz lotion or massage oil
20 drops of lavender
10 drops of cypress
(you can also try adding Ginger if this blend isn’t quite strong enough)
Apply lotion to arms and legs, making sure to rub toward your body, not your toes!  Again, take it easy with this potion… I’ve found it to be particularly effective.

Burns – Of All Kinds
Don’t go reaching for vaseline, butter, or anything else before you read this!  Grease based products keep the heat IN and can perpetuate a burn rather than soothing it.  Cool a burn in cold water (not with ice!) and then make a cool compress with the blend below and apply to the affected area.  Pre-mix this potion and keep it handy, using one drop of the blend for each square inch of burn:
10 drops of Lavender
10 drops of German Chamomile
5 drops of Roman Chamomile

Insect Repellent
Who needs to be eaten alive by those pesky bugs that leave you with itchy bumps?  Try applying a few drops of this blend to a cotton ball and leaving near your bed for nighttime protection, or make your own version of citronella by applying a couple of drops to several lengths of ribbons and hanging on your patio or in front of your window!  You can also mix with lotion and use as your own personal repellent!  Feel free to use liberally – especially in areas known for mosquitos, fleas and ticks.
4 drops of Lavender
4 drops of Peppermint
4 drops of Thyme
8 drops of Lemongrass
